How do I get my Dubai business into Google's map results?
Complete your Google Business Profile, choose the right primary category and collect reviews steadily. Google weighs three things when it builds the map results: relevance (how well your category and description match the search), distance (from the person searching) and prominence (reviews, mentions and the strength of your website). You cannot change distance. Category and reviews are where most local businesses have the most to gain.
Local SEO in Dubai is mostly about your Google Business Profile. Complete every field, choose the right primary category and collect reviews steadily. Google builds the map results from three factors: relevance, distance and prominence. Distance is fixed. Category and reviews are where most local businesses have the most to gain.
When someone searches “dentist near me” or “AC repair Jumeirah”, the first thing they see is usually a map with three businesses. The ordinary links come below it.
Those three places are rarely decided by how good your website is. They are decided by your Business Profile, a listing you fill in at Google rather than something you build. For many local businesses it is the most profitable hour of their marketing.
A note on who is writing this: we are a web agency in Sweden and we do not have a Business Profile in the UAE ourselves, because we have no address there. This guide explains how it works for your business, which does.
What does Google weigh in the map results?
| Factor | What it means | Can you influence it? |
|---|---|---|
| Relevance | How well your category, description and services match the search | Yes, directly |
| Distance | How far you are from the person searching | No |
| Prominence | How well known the business is: reviews, mentions, website strength | Yes, over time |
The three factors are Google’s own, listed in how Google determines local ranking. Distance is what people worry about most, and it is the only one that is locked. Put your effort into the other two.
Why is the primary category the most important choice?
If you change only one thing, change the primary category.
It decides which searches you can appear for at all. A business listed as “Business management consultant” when it is really a “Cleaning service” is invisible to everyone searching for cleaning.
- One primary category. Choose the one that describes what you mainly do, not the broadest one.
- Additional categories for the other things you do, but only things you really do.
- If you change category, rankings can move within a couple of weeks. It is the fastest effect available in local SEO.
Which fields do most profiles leave empty?
Almost every profile has name, address, phone and opening hours. Far fewer have filled in the rest, and that is where the room is.
- Services. Add each service as its own line with a short description. They match searches directly.
- Description. You have 750 characters. Say what you do, for whom and where. Skip superlatives.
- Photos. Your own, not stock images. The premises, the team, the work. Add a few every quarter.
- Questions and answers. You can ask and answer questions yourself. Do it, or strangers will answer for you.
- Attributes. Accessibility, payment methods, parking. Small fields that filter you into more searches.
- Posts. Short-lived, but they keep the profile fresh.
- Booking or quote link. A direct path from the profile to an enquiry. If WhatsApp is how your customers reach you, make sure the phone number on the profile is the one you answer there.
If you serve customers in both English and Arabic, write the description and the service list in the language your customers search in.
How many reviews do you need, and how often?
Volume matters less than people think. Freshness and replies matter more.
- A business with 25 reviews, several from the last few months, often beats one with 90 where the latest is two years old.
- Reply to every review, the bad ones especially. A calm, factual reply to an angry review is read by everyone who comes after.
- Ask as a routine, right after a job well done. A short message with a direct link works best.
- Never buy reviews. Google’s guidelines forbid it, and the penalty hits the whole profile.
What does a Business Profile not solve?
It gets you into the local map results. It does not get you into the ordinary search results, and it works less well the broader the search. If someone searches “web design” without a place name, your profile plays a small role.
The details on your profile should match the LocalBusiness markup on your website: same name, same address, same opening hours.
The profile also needs a real address. Google’s guidelines say that a rented mailing address the business does not operate from is not eligible, and that a service-area business cannot list a virtual office unless it is staffed during business hours. A business that visits customers, such as a mobile car wash or a cleaning company, can show a service area instead of an address, but it still needs a real base.
